The PnP systems contributed a lot to the fun. Like the to hit system and the unique spell system this game has. They destroyed the first and ruined the second.

Of course, if they didn't have such horrible power creep sprint they wouldn't have to keep rebalancing the classes over and over again.

But that would require their new offerings to be worth playing because they were fun and creative, and it's much easier to make them worth playing because they are ridiculously overpowered.

Unfortunately, that means you have to keep notching everything else up after a little while, and the gulf new players have to cross gets wider and wider  Undecided

Good:
Pay2Win, I love it. If I don't have the time to play because of work and family it's great that I have a option to "buy the time". I don't use it often but when I do, I'm glad it is there.

Builds, I love being able to build over lunch by looking at wiki, vault, forums, and then being able to make the build when I have time. If you are not hung up on being the most powerful character your can makes a myriad of characters.

Bad:

Lazy dev design cause Powercreep, slowly forcing us all into the same box.

Dearth of new engaging content and stories.

lack of engaging? have you not run toee pt1 yet?

you get a red named rare followed by a red named guy guarding a lever. Then you get to fight 4 red named earth elles guarding a red named guy with a key. After that there is another red named elle followed by a red named cube and a red named goristro. Which leads you to a fight with 4 red named elles, a red named bebilith, and a red named boss.

I play for the people I have met. I've met some really awesome folks since I started playing in 2007 and only a few remain.

I regularly talk (on fb and whatnot) to some of those who left and Turbine is the direct reason they left. They didn't tire of the game or move onto something else; they had it with the lies, unkept promises, bugs, lack of inspiration from the dev/management team and most of all: The inability to have any long-term vision articulated to the players.

If the people with whom are in my guild (and they are the remaining friends I have in the game) left, I'd be out of fast .

You make it sound far more interesting than it actually is.
You forgot the tedious part of clearing the 4,000 trash mobs in between.

Point me at a highly instanced, FPS-controlled RPG that has interesting, meaningful build options and movement enabled during all aspects of combat that is based on an IP that I love and I will play the shit out of it.

Until then, there's DDO.

Don't spend money on it: If it's free, all you're wasting is time. When you encounter some stupid P2W or grind, say to yourself "Meh, you get what you pay for" and it hurts less.

...

This is my attitude, 100%.

The game is not P2W for me as I don't buy Otto's boxes or anything from the store unless I have earned my Free TP and I have accumulated enough FREE TP.

During the summer sale, I purchased two more inventory slots at 35% off with TP I freely earned.  My only purchase on the summer sale.  Hopefully, this next Thursday, something cool will be offered.

I don't spend money on it other than the expansion packs, and that is only if I feel like it.  So far, I have.

If the game ain't fun, then quit playing and move on to other things.

Here is stuff I am doing on the side
Make a Wine Cabinet.  Restore a classic car(1957 Chevrolet Bel Air four door Hardtop).  Take up exercising.  Chase women(full disclosure I am married so it is easy for me).  Go to Las Vegas.(Going in August)

Sweet! I'm doing some woodwoking too, but I envy the car project, very impressive.

BTW, in Vault style, between the words "exercising" and "chase" should be a dash, not a period  Wink

Because once you're married all the women finally know you're worth something. And so if they can convince you to leave your wife, they know they've finally got an honest, family devoted man.

Err....

I enjoy DDO. This is may partly because I do not have the time to play as hardcore as I did 2~3 years ago. After I left Argo and moved to khyber, I slowed down on my playing. I cycle through PoE and Destiny and DDO. Whatever I feel like playing after work for a couple hours.

DDO works fine for casual play. There is no hardcore playing in it anymore.

I'm with Epoch.

Agree with this.
Switching over to PoE when I get the shits with DDO helps to break it up.
Also playing less seems to make you more forgiving of a lot of the issues.
Take a break is the best advice.
I have found that if you break for too long though, it is really hard to jump back in trying to remember what you were up to in terms of progress, gear farming, favour etc.  the complexity becomes a mental barrier to re-entry because the first few hours aren't fun, just trying to work out where you left that whatzit-thinga-majig you need is or where that bank mule is, etc.

Very true, if taken for what it is it can still provide hours of enjoyment.

Why the devs don't think the bug reports are "about anything serious"?  Cheesy

Oh, me too. PoE <-> DDO is the worst, I'm constantly trying to use the movement/interaction keys from one in the other.

That slogan has been discussed in group chat since 2008.  Typically, it was some form of "DDO:  We suck less."

Agreed.

I tried out GW2 and WoW... I came back to DDO despite the fact that it's a sinking ship. By "sinking" I mean it's 80% submerged and the 20% that's left is just the galley holding a small group of drunken sailors who know they are dead any minute but don't care.
