Is Epic eSoS end game garbage?

I have an old THF alt I was thinking about dusting off but he has no Phlogs.

I mean it's still pretty tits for crit threat/multi. I imagine on a Barb Pally it would be still be nice, no?

Full disclosure: Haven't played a THF character since long before U25. Maybe 23?

Epic SOS is still best choice for THF Barb/Pally from lv20 to lv27.

BTW, it's good time to play THF character currently,  glancing blow has 100% damage now even without any THF feats.  Wink

It holds up pretty well.   There are several other options you can go with, but that thing was so OP that it is probably still in the top gear at least through 25.  If not higher.

ESoS weakness is base damage compared to either TF or new axe from amrath, very low +W, just like most old epic weapons

Yep. Mortal Fear owns all trash, but it's hard to beat a superior crit profile for red/purples.

I use Esos until I reach lv 26. The reason is that EE mobs at that level start to have high fortification (actually even before that) so armor piercing from TF is really welcomed.

Base damage is a non issue since Esos has a falchion crit range with a great axe multiplier. When you score a crit you HURT and many builds can go really close to 50% crit chance. It can definitely be worthwhile at level 27 too.

yes of course that too, but there are some more interesting armor to wear, especially defensively, situationally.

I guess most of the time Black Dragon is probably the best choice for the 5% Damage boost.

When all the boosts in the game go to RP/MP boosts though, that black dragon armor is going to be a lot more attractive.

I just did some math and remembered this thread.

My math says that on a holysworded (13-20x4) eSoS  you'd need about 150 base damage (x[W]+mod) to pull ahead of of a holysworded (13-20x3) T3 TF Falchion (with 10d6 fire and 8d8 force per hit).

Does that sound right?

That's not hard to get at all with a Barb or Pally (assuming barb has other crit range modifiers than Holy Sword). My throwers are like 4.8d2 +70-75 Depending on Buffs. With 10 Stacks of Blitz I'm runing around with like 170 or 180 RP ( I keep TR'ing that's why they're ranges). That's way more than 150 base damage, so Barb/Pally whatever must be able to go higher.

No, I did the calc before melee power applies. Theoretically it would scale each equally and cancel out,...but since melee power isn't working as described it may favor the better crit profile.

I'm not sure it's doable even with 1.5Str(w/ DM), Deadly 11, Power Attack, Seeker 14, +[W], etc. It would still be red-name only though. There's no overcoming Mortal Fear for trash.
