The game isn't only played in epics. The player base has a good pile of people who play slowly and level slowly and still might like to play a fighter. And even if you aren't a noob you still don't have access to cocoon or consecrate while in heroics.
Paladins and Barbs do have all kinds of self healing in heroics, and that's why it matters.
Also, I haven't looked too hard at the numbers but at a guess PRR/MRR and AC aren't going to be terribly higher for a fighter. Barbs have all kinds of MRR available in enhancements, Paladins have the identical vanguard tree and almost identical sacred defender tree, and the fighter heavy armor feats are level based. If stacked they do add a nice chunk, but they are a feat tax and a cop-out design, stop for some reason at 14th (there should be an 18th version if you look at the progression) and don't stack up much before 10th or 14th anyway.
Also, cocoon and consecrate cost sp, which a fighter can get but it isn't free or easy.
When you started talking like playing a fighter in heroics was a challenge you lost me. Are we really worried about fighter survivability in heroics? Come on. That's a joke, right?
A) I disagree that heroics are a challenge for any class right now.
B) I disagree that all classes should have the same features and thus just be different cosmetics on the same stuff. They all have the same crit profile changes. They all have special attacks that function basically the same just with different names. They all have self healing. They all have PRR and MRR boosts. BORING! Honestly, barbs with self healing was a mistake. It was a weak cop out to help with the fact that rage stops them from cocooning and such. But it created a precedent that every class needs to be able to self heal. No matter what. Which is bullshit. I like the game better when the only classes that can self heal reliably are pallys, divines, bards, PM's, and WF arcanes. I'm OK with Monks, Artis, and Rangers having moderate, but limited, self healing. Fighters, Barbs, Rogues, and non-WF/PM arcanes should need to address this weakness with trade offs that come outside the base class features (along with the limited self healers). That would involve multi-classing, ED's/Twists, gear, PL's, etc. Otherwise the game moves to a point where build diversity dies.
