LD unquestionably has the higher kobold dps tests, and in almost all content unquestionably takes the lead for solo dps.
However, pierce the gloom, shadow form, shadow mastery, meld into darkness, etc. are an extremely tempting package. I think there's a strong case to be made for Shadowdancer.
Pierce the gloom has enormous benefits to dps that you cant quantify on bruntsmash or kobold dps test.
Shadow form increases your defenses (allowing you to play even more aggressively) but also boosts your damage through hide increase.
Shadow Mastery increases everyone's (who matters - casters/healers aren't doing much damage) dps by 5%. This obviously works better in raids than it does in quests, but group dps buffs are enormously helpful (its one of the reasons I strongly advocate for rebuke foe).
Meld into darkness makes you nigh invincible when coupled with all your other tricks - 25% incorp, uncanny dodge, 50% displacement, AC, elusive feat, etc. - again defensive abilities like this make it so you can play fast and lose where in other scenarios you absolutely couldn't.
Add it to your stat boosts, netting you base damage and more importantly assassinate DC (+2).
In the end, if you are playing an assassin in high skull, I'm of the opinion that you should capitalize on assassinate for trash clearing (it is of my opinion that this cancels out most of the helpless damage boost from LD), and focus on single target boss dps (which can't be hard cced, often has cleaves, sometimes has uncontrollable aggro like devil in pt 2 of shroud). Stacking dps buffs on your entire party like shadow mastery is a good way to make completions quicker and smoother (imo).
