Embrace an existential approach. Your goal and meaning is defined by who gets one-shotted by a caster the soonest. Tell others to get on your level. You are the master of your hardcore domain.

I'd like a season where they do extra lives again. Something like 2 up front, then one at 10 and 20. Maybe one at thirty for cap. But honestly 3-4 lives would be the sweet spot. Really, I'd say is 3 is ideal, but I like the concept of giving people a life at about the midway points of where content gets a difficulty bump/you may get complacent enough to die accidentally. Or frankly, just having a buffer against the inevitable lag spikes.
