From Tolero. TL;DR summary, ya'll that got banned got added to Santa's naughty kid watch list.

https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/428739-Total-incompetence/page2#post51...

So apart from the "name calling and insults are prohibited," for some context in terms of general procedures on this sort of thing...

- Accounts are audited and scrubbed.
- Buy back of the characters is reviewed before releasing the characters back into the wild.
- Items are deleted from most to least valuable in order to choke the buy back with less valuable items, in the event that for some reason items didn't show up in the buy back review. Because of the quantity of items we purged in total, we also elected to disable the buy back feature just in case there was a purging back log.
- Accounts that go through such a procedure are placed on an item-acquire watch list for the foreseeable future, where we monitor the activity of the account after the proceedure.
- We also continue to monitor for accounts that "brag" about having slipped through the net.

Hope this clarifies things!

They ought to release me into the wild then. I was "scrubbed" 2 weeks ago. My buyback was completely empty.

Or checking chat logs... We know they can do that.
So if you start bragging in the harbor that you slipped through the net you'll get caught.

Not sure how deep they can monitor channels though.

Well, that's a silver lining right there. They have to read the vault? An honest discussion of their shortcomings that they can't cube? How can they survive without the Fanboi ego balm?

There are no Fanbois in the modern DDO Vault. Well, there are almost no Fanbois in the modern DDO Vault. OK, there aren't as many fanbois as there used to be in the modern DDO Vault.

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

Well seeing that it's dead easy to capture any of the chat from client side it's obvious it's possible... now it's Turbine we are talking about... The people that have to hand delete duped stuff by logging in on the character because they are unable to build the queries to do it automatically.

Edit : and maybe they will monitor for a while... so that they can catch the idiots that brags about duping.

They certainly read reports about people using cuss words in chat!

Can't have people swearing in front of children that might be playing a game where they murder people with axes and fire.

People who exploit, talking just about DDO and the examples Turbine gave us over the years, often are aware that all they will get is MAX 14 days ban and the removal of ill items. So, just a ban + the removal of such items just doesn't cut it anymore (it never did, Turbine just got this now).

They know it always worked like this:
1) you get caught and in the best case scenario, you will have a 14 days ban but you will keep your duped items.
2) you get caught and in the worst case scenario, your duped items will be deleted and you will have just wasted a couple of hours duping them + 14 days ban.

Basically, there was ZERO risks at all for exploiting. You see why this can't be the case anymore? It was a case of uber win (case 1) or meh, couple hours wasted (case 2).

Hence, they needed a third case scenario. Which is perfect for future exploits. Why? Because I (a generic I), who just exploited now but got away with it, the next time won't probably.

Unfortunately that is the fault of Turdbine’s inconsistency (more likely incompetence actually) over the years. If it was always option 2, people would be much less inclined since there would never be any reward and you suffer a temp ban. THAT is punishment. THAT would be a deterrent.

However, even their ‘Extreme Prejudice’ is the laughing stock of the game. Sure people are gone from 7-30+ days but when they are getting to keep most of their stuff, you are indeed correct there is little risk and a large reward. But Turdbine’s inability to properly (do anything) is not an excuse to go hog wide and run roughshod over players. Doing so only encourages MORE bad behaviour.

Shuy wrote on Oct 24th, 2013 at 6:59am:
Next time, don't exploit and you won't risk anything. I know, it's stupid right?

Sadly we know this is not the case. People that did not dup having been caught up in this merely by association.

(this also ignores the sad fact that only half the people I know dup were caught)

especially considering the GMs have to run the chat through google translate first.

So GM logged onto a suspended guildie's toon's today (so the extreme prejudice is not limited to weekdays). Took the time to have my second box stalk him to see what they actually do while I ran other quests.

The first thing they do is check your mailbox.  Dunno why, maybe to get rid of lost-and-found returns, read astral shard mails on dups so they will expire, bounced dup attachments from mules, etc.  They then spend a whole lotta time at the bank.

The characters were logged in alphabetical order.  Some toons only had a five minute session.  Perhaps their inventory was empty. Other toons got a full 25+ minute rectal probe -- including shiny level 1 TRs with ripe reincarnation caches.  Some toons were logged in, then out, then back in a few times. The longest they spent on a toon was 28 minutes.

Assuming an eight hour workday doing just that, it looks like perhaps they can rape 24 fully duped inventories per shift per GM.

according to Boogre only 270 people duped so they should be done in a couple days.

I definitely learned my lesson though, I'll never exploit on my main account ever again.  Cheesy
