	Meh. Asheron's Call is still up and running after almost 14 years. Everquest is as well. I doubt the servers go dark that quickly. I don't know how long you've been around, but I've been hearing "Dooom! The game is closing in 6-12 months if Turbine keeps fucking stuff up and screwing over the play base" talk since 2008. Go to any game's forums and you will see the same stuff. It's guaranteed some idiot will make the assertion about every 3 months or so in any MMO that's been out for 6 months or longer.

	Using my time machine, I checked the Wikipedia entry for DDO in the year 2075. Quote: The actual date that DDO died remains in dispute, with some scholars placing it as early as 2010 or 2011. Most consider the actual date to coincide with either MoTU in 2012 or Shadowfail in 2013. Historians with the archival department at Pathfinders of The Coast have a preference for the Shadowfail update as the actual date of DDO's demise, since Shadowfail clearly represented the point by which the full effects of system changes by mediocre employees became apparent. The crippling bugs and numerous exploits (which had grown in frequency and severity after MoTU) reached critical mass shortly after Shadowfail, and are often cited in support of the 2013 date as well. What you should instead be asking is when the shambling zombie corpse will be put out of its misery. Looking at Asheron's Call, that could be quite some time yet. Unfortunately, my time machine glitched, and I was unable to retrieve the next part of the article, which discussed DDO's undead existence and server shutdown dates.

	I think DDO will never fully die, turbine will just leave the game up as a grim reminder of what used to be a good game as they increase the pay to win instead of producing more content. Then it will just exist forever and we will tell our children stories of how the game used to be good, and turbine will make children cry for the shittiness they have introduced to their game. Think about the children turbine, make this game great again.

	When WotC does not re-grant the license. So, I'd say when either Turbine can't pay them the licensing fee, or when WotC contracts another MMO maker to come up with an updated MMO based on their new ruleset & setting du jour. In other words: fucked if I know.

This will be the determining factor. Asherons Call and Evercrack dont require paying licencing fees or royalties. The licence expires in 2015 as per the atari/hasbro/turbine settlement.

	How could DDO ever die? Did you miss the fact that DDO and Turbine are that marvelous that even WoW/Blizzard is looking at DDO now and see how great they are doing that even WoW thinks about going F2P now? (I voted 2014 because even more random named loot -.-)

I'm arguing that quality of content has decreased and led to a decrease in population as people grow tired of really bad decisions and that this will bring about maint mode. For me shadowfail (I can't even remember it's real name how bad is that) hit that line where the quality of the content was so bad that the game wasn't worth playing anymore. This doesn't even factor in actual bugs, or exploits, this is pure content idea's being that bad.
