Those are old live numbers before all the patches. Someone posted his work from here and used a 2013 sock. well played.

Pray to RNGesus!

Are there new numbers now after all the patches?  I rerolled the end chest on ToEE 2 about 12 or 16 times trying for an elemental bloom.  This was before it was announced every chest has a chance to drop it.

Damn.

My motivation to keep hitting ToEE is now broken, this was one of those things I was probably happier not knowing.

IronClam just made a long post confirming what a moron he truly is. To wit:

Quote:
I would just like to say that anyone who's done any rudimentary coding or is familiar with game design can debunk the hoax contained in the OP.
  • the OP is clearly a hoax based on another hoax artists fiction on another site "not to be named" that has some other people who are not familiar with game development eating out of their hand, with plausibly elaborate pretend numbers made even more plausible by the readers desire to be deceived. As with this thread an elaborate but totally fabricateHd premise based on the unspoken assumption or implication that the poster has reverse engineered the client to find data. Data that would never be on the client side due to how easily it could be manipulated.
  • no client server architecture based game will ever have drop rates on the client side, there's literally no reason why they would be, and a million reasons why you would never do this. The server would never in a million years need the client to roll a chest or determine anything about it's contents. This would lead to anyone with a memory resident editor being able to force DDO to drop rare loot 100% of the time. You could literally reach into client memory and replace the trash loot with named and store bought rare roll loot. Which of course is why no one would ever put this on the client.
  • There is literally no coding reason or value in having a loot drop rate percentage or table that is either contained on or reported to the client, all the client is getting is: "this chest contained X Y and X". As a rudimentary experiment try opening a chest when you're lagged... see how nothing shows up then the chest populates slowly (slowly in terms of how fast a client side operation would happen)? That's because the server hasn't told the client what you got yet. Now ask yourself why given this fact they would ever put drop rates (let alone actual loot tables) on your computer?.
  • No coder would ever create a loot table that... um... unnecessarily analog?

  • Unfortunately most of DDO's player base is not very familiar with the history of internet multiplayer games or they would dismiss the implication of the OP's post out of hand. This is literally stuff that hasn't been done since the early 90's when various hacks to client side memory became rampant in games like Diablo and early MMO's and Developers quickly realized the folly of allowing ANYTHING that needed the slightest security to reside in client side memory or the data files on the clients computer.

Now let the shouting down begin, if there's anything I've learned on the internet it's that people want to believe what they want to believe. And they do not like to see things they want to believe debunked. Especially if they have no expertise in the matter.

Lets be clear about something: there are a lot of people around here who have zero expertize, who wouldn't even know what to do with a hex editor and a data file, let alone a compiler and some actual code. who want to accuse the working professionals with degrees and years of experience running MMO's of not knowing what they are doing: to leave drop rates in the client, to allow the client to even contain these would be a mistake only a truly unknowledgeable non coder would accuse anyone of. You literally would have to "not know what you don't know" to even think these numbers would ever exist off of a server. (of course the logical place for the OP to go from there is to imply that they hacked the server a rabbit hole I'm not going to bother pre-debunking).

Anyway believe whatever you want, I'm not going to stick around for the hurt feeling and "but I wanna believe so u r a ****" angst directed at me. The OP is a hoax and so is the guy he's referencing on the other site. Take this as you will.

Ironclan such a tool. Calling the numbers and Rodrak here a hoax. For what reasosn would Rod be hoaxing us? He barely posts, doesnt play the game, does all the mining for free and takes every request on his free time.

It's okay, ironclan. We'll just enjoy the stats on every thing in the game while you can go guesstimate on anecdotal with your hatred of getting ridiculed here to keep you warm.

Iron - why don't you show up here and debate whether Rodrak is for real or not?

I can understand being skeptical on the web, but I think Rodrak's work on the Abbott speaks for itself.

Using logic and common sense to defend Turdbine on anything is fraught with danger....   Huh

I do wonder if Ironclan's post was intentionally brilliant irony.....
Things like, "no coder would ever be stupid enough to" and "that hasn't been done since the early 90's" and "no game could ever have a reason to".

And they did, and still do......
Oh, what a massive burn on Turdbine.
Could it be that Iron is comic genius?
All we need to bring it home is some of the actual code showing the loot tables....

Hmm, I have seen this demonstrated in more than a few of your posts in just the past few months, so maybe don't throw stones? Don't get me wrong I find your largely polemic post rather entertaining, and almost always amusing, but I worry when you get a bit frantic like this. It's almost as though you believe what you are saying here which would be crazy, and ill-informed.

The question isn't if these are the correct drop rates, I have been assured by several insanely qualified coders in the industry that they are dead-on. Instead the question should be: is there a problem with them at this rate? for me there is not. I think the numbers are just fine they protect the rare nature of the items and with a eye to the population running through ToEE they produce just enough to keep players eager.

I'm not sure if your getting my point, but in simple terms, I think you should stop carping about the OP and sounding like a tin-foil hat wearing guy trying to undermine his solid data. Instead you should be taking the fight to the people who think there is a problem with those numbers. They are the types who want gear to fall into their lap quickly, and that just hurts the long-term viability of the game.

So if you really want to help Turbine and those of us who support the game, you would be well advised to direct your energies towards defending the loot numbers and more importantly the philosophy behind creating them that Turbine embraced.

    That is all, carry on.

Is that 1 in ~ 1300 really that bad, considering you probably don't do it alone ?
Mod, Citw, Thunderholme rates are known too, even old 4-5 tomes post ( it was like 1 in ~400 iirc ) and people farmed for tomes anyway ( I got a bunch ).

That 2/5/10 % for Mod doesn't look too good either if you'd do the maths for theoretical "solo" chance for particular item. Or particular Tod ring back in the days. Yet 20 or 40 raids and you have buncha shit you wanted. Some you pull, some you put up for roll, some you win or lose.

How rare should be "mythic rare", certainly not 3 bc rare ( like everybody has all they need in 2 hours ) ?
I usually do Temple with 2 or 3 friends ( 1 in 325 chests ? ), seen the orb before and dagger yesterday.  I don't know - maybe 10 completions altogether.

You get it when you get it. Solo farming elite temple on capped toon and blowing shards on rerolls sounds pretty much like the most idiotic thing to do.
DDO players are bunch of spoiled brats lately.
Avithouls grow on trees, Planar foci or EN stuff have no value, 50 Sacrifical daggers or Necro staves for 10 k plat on ah.
That's not too good either. It's pretty cool to pull some rare stuff.

More rare spawns would be cool though - you can clear the whole thing in almost two hours and sometimes you won't find single spawn.
Or you find that Wadsworth cube - anyone know how much hp that damn things has ?

I really agree with this. I don't mind that the drop rates blow. The idea of a rare is just that  (Its rare and should not just drop like candy like LOD named chain items). It should be painful to get. It should be BTC. Now I could see after 20 completions that you get a pull that has a few of the named items in it similar to the Elite Necro 4. (without the cheat)

The idea of more rare mobs is great. It would be nice to run around a corner and instead of seeing the typical lizards/Elementals/orcs etc there is a rare surrounded by trash mobs or perhaps a puzzle or mini quest (like the frog /spidernest deal). I find its so tedious running the whole earth plane  to find that stupid mote to progress to the end battle or to the the next elemental plane if your farming shrooms.

They have the space for it why not make use of it rather then cookie cutter mobs every corner. Really limited vision on this package when it could have been so much more.

    Turbines logic:

    1/1300 * 6 party member * (3 - 12 rare chests + 1 end chest) = ~3% chance per run for a rare item to drop

    Real world logic:

Six people run, after 28 runs an item drops and is passed to the person looking for it.  That person then promptly never runs ToEE again.

Five people continue to run it another 28 times and finally a rare item drops again.  It's ninjaed by the person it dropped for who wasn't really looking for it but figures he could use it somewhere down the line and something is better than nothing.  This person is alienated from the group, doesn't give a shit; TRs into something that can use the weapon he got until he hits level 7, gets sick of grinding, and stops playing DDO 2 weeks later.

Four people keep running ToEE trying to get gear, using hires to replace the two assholes who left.  Two of these drop off over the next week cause the grind is getting ridiculous.  The one farms Thunderholme, the other rolls a new toon.

Two people continue running ToEE.  They decide to pug it to try to get more people to join, but by this point everyone on the server has realized that ToEE is a steaming load of crap and are preparing for the mass rolling of warlocks that is about to happen.  ToEE is quietly forgotten a couple months after it was released.  One of the party members stops running ToEE having lost all hope of getting something nice.

One person continues to run ToEE occasionally, praying for that rare item to drop, and each chest still has a 1/1300 chance to drop something.  This chance never gets higher.  Even after 1300 runs, when you open a chest, the chance something is going to drop is 1/1300.

I like IronClan's comparisons of james to kirk married to a horse book. To prove that the list might be hoax.

ANd that he basically realized that the internet may not be the best place to figure out real life stuff.

So proud of players like him.

The most broken epic PL in the game is the ridiculous AC buff from martial PLs. But when you include all the inherent benefits from reincarnation, the thing is above the roof. The benefit from TR was supposed to be minimal, but now it is game breaking. start a new character and you will feel, you will get raped in heroics.

Personally I think lower heroics on new characters are harder than Legendary Elite content on a character with good gear and has all destinies farmed.

And someone in another thread called ME delusional recently!

    Wow.

Have you EVER gone to Law School Feyn? Have you EVER been asked by a United States Senator who is now the Vice President of the United States to write a paper just for him on a particular topic of Constitutional Law for his use as a Senator? Have you ever been asked to help a very notable Harvard PhD turned Constitutional scholar with his very-well received book on Legal Philosophy and Constitutional Revolutions? Have you ever been offered a job as a Deputy Attorney General BEFORE you even graduated Law School?

No? Then STFU you fucking amateur.

Pretty sure that the fact that a service can be hacked doesn't make it the "community chest".
