Well, I'll be darned. It DOES say Critical
Damage
and not Critical
Chance
.
Misread on my part. I guess I really wanted it to be Chance instead of Damage too badly.
Might have to re-consider remaking my sorc although a 45% chance to critical with my fire spells is still pretty good.

This seems like generally good news for Sorcs, who can come in from the cold after Warlocks drove them out.
As for Wizards...

Annnnd nerfed before it ever hits live..
Per Steelstar..
We are also planning to change the "Master of..." feats from those spells "no longer having a Maximum Caster Level" to granting "+10 to the Maximum Caster Level". For almost all characters, that doesn't change the damage you'll be doing with those spells in U29. It also keeps existing abilities that boost Maximum Caster Level relevant.

Last air savant I had---was about 650 spell power.
Not sure about 900.

Apart from the fact that his calculations are completely wrong, I think it's a fair pre-nerf (ignore the the unwarranted hardon for shiradi hate for now). Uncapped MCLs were probably a bit too overpowered.
I'd be interested in what the new MCLs and base damages are, if someone has the time to recalculate.

New MCLs:
Most things in the new feats are MCL 10 to start.
10 base
+4 savant
+3 master of evocation
+3 dragon spell knowledge
+10 new feats
Total: 30 MCL
So that's roughly a 30% downgrade compared to the previous 43 MCL. Several things already reach MCL of 30 (e.g., chain lightning). So burst DPS won't improve, but you'll be a lot more efficient with things light lightning bolt and fireball SLAs being equivalent to fully meta'ed chain lightning or delayed blast fireball.
Also, if you're in shiradi (or draconic), it's an MCL of 27, which you hit with just the savant tree (no need for arcane soldier gloves or abishai set). Tough choices on epic destinies.

Master of light with 20 FvS or 15 cleric/5 FvS seems like an interesting possibility with two copies of sun bolt SLA.
MCL:
+3 AoV
+10 feat
Searing light: MCL 23 (71.5 base damage)
Sun bolt: MCL 28 (182 base damage)
