let me take you back to 2006 for a moment.

Back when the game was young and the cap was ten certain things already blared claxon bells of warnings. I know hindsight is 20/20 but truly this isn't one of those things. As I mentioned in another post in 06 I went hard core in gamemode.

I was playing a lot and knew D20 and made characters that where capable in DDO in seconds of thought. I was one of those who would cap a ten in a handful of days and delete it just because I didn't care. But what I found d really annoying g was that anyone who played even a little less often then I would be so outpaced by my leveling. Now I dont alt or start a fresh character till the one I'm playing g is done. That's me but I've come across many with a similar view across so many MMO I do consider it a fairly common view and those who hold it a meaningful percentage of game population.

So soon pugging was really my only option to group. Statics didn't work too infrequently played. Guilds tended to expect you to keep a stable to switch around to as needed. Can't do that I need to play the toon I'm developing or I'm not having fun.

So I went to the forums and suggested a simple idea. Remove level issues by making the party lvl set by the leaders level. With those above being handicapped by temp neg levels inside the quest and those below receiving Temp buffs in the same vein.

Now remember we are in 06 right now where +5 weapons or a +1 with vorpal where the big hitters and most named gear had more flavor then effect. Mention this because of the main argument that was shouted by many and trolled the idea to death within days.

The complain. Was a lvl ten geared out would be too op for content just based on gear if it was use able still. And newbs buffed up would t have the gear needed to matter.

Keep in mind d to +4 gear with a race req was lvl 4 min. Its not like gear gaps where that big yet. Much more rested in the build itself. But that was the main thing brought up by the opponents. Gear power gap. I'd even suggested letting the lowbies be able to bypass gear reqs inside quest when the temp buffs where active so passing g hand me downs to new friends could help them jump in with you.

The entire idea was of course to make it easy and painless for people to play with each other.

Now we instead have TRing and gear from so many eras of development that it just makes me wonder if the opposition could of even begun to imagine DDO 2016

It was a good year. Marquee and Pink Elephant were the best dance clubs to go to at the time. Afrojack would spin for a night there randomly, before he got more fame and released his album in 2007. We had vip tables there every weekend. Wass (Stevens) hated me and would turn me away every single time. I had to call Andrew (Goldberg) to come and let me in. Haters gonna hate. Pink was my Tuesday/Wednesday, my friends didnt like it much though. Home was, by far, the top hiphop spot. My boy knew the vip hostess and we were regulars every Sunday. Got to see Kanye perform Flashing Lights that summer in there, before he released Graduation. Kanye was 2007 tho.

Before FB was every where and Twitter was a newborn. I could stand at the bar and smoke blunts right there. That is actually one of my favorite memories of the Kanye performance. So intimate, like Home was home, ya kno? All those places would let me chill like that. Pink tried to be more strict, but the security and manager learned that I had the OK. Funny story that one. The manager pulled me out and told me to come with him to the back. They called security. I told him "tell Big Guy and Alex that it's me". He looked at me and said "what? that doesnt matter" It mattered. I was back there doing the same shit again in 5 minutes. I bought him and his guests a round of shots to show no hard feelings. Tipped the bartender correctly and he never looked my way again after that. Not everyone could. You had to know people, nigga. Oh, and your weed had to be bomb. Sour or OG or gtfo.

Nice.

Most of KMFDM came to my house for an after party that year.

It was also the year my drug habits started getting out of hand, but I didn't really notice until late 2007.

This game bears little resemblance to the 2006 original version.  No 10 year old game does.  It wouldn't make it 10 years on the exact same systems, gear, builds, and level cap.

Not sure what the point of this thread is.

TR was simultaneously the best and worst idea ever.  It provided a longevity and created an XP grind that can last for years and stretched the game enjoyment out for many players but, at the same time, it creates a power creep that kills old content, it damages end game, since your character never really caps, it dis-incentivizes running multiple characters unless you have a ton of time or money or both, and it spreads out the player base rather than grouping them up.

This game was pretty much the same from 2006 to 2009, even through cap raises, as they could control power level and challenge.  TR was the beginning of the challenge issues.  We currently have 6 sources of power creep when comparing a starting character to a long time character:  Build points, Heroic PL's, Iconic PL's, Epic PL's, Twists of Fate, and Gear.  Back in 2006 you had one source - Gear.  And you only a few months or so of gear grind to deal with.  Not 10 years of grinding, and crafting, and raid loot, and exploits and 10 years worth of content(and the loot that comes with it) to deal with.

KMFDM sucks. If it was the Hau Ruck tour I hope they played a lot of the old shit. No En Esch, Watts, Guenter or Skold that era so it sounds like an after party for the after party.  I met most the current band last year in New Orleans at the Civic show. It would be nice if they would get some of the older members back in. Debating whether to catch the PIG w/ En Esch/Guenter tour in September. Probably wait until someone posts setlists to decide.

Yeah, lots!  Drug Against War, Godlike, Light, from what I remember.  The Nihil album is my favourite, but I wouldn't really want to hear it performed without Watts.

They certainly do love their fans.  Not sure what the current lineup is, but Andy, Jules and Steve were the guys who came and hung out with us.  Got to talk with Sascha for a bit, but he didn't come to the party.  Good people.
