Question about Rogue splash and trapping

I'm looking at making a Bard 16/Fighter 2/Rogue 2 split. Are 2 levels of Rogue enough to get EE traps? This is a Dwarf if that makes a difference.

1 rogue level is enough.
So you want to know about an exploit?

Which Rogue skills to put points in, just Search and Disable? Or Open Lock as well?

Do you want to open locks?
If so, yes.
If not, no.
How fucking hard is it.

Okay talking to a person who has never had a single Rogue level before, not knowing exactly how all the skills interact and apply..
Which skills do most Rogue splashes take?

DD, Search, UMD are my bread and butter. If you can take extra stuff, I'd go something like Heal\Balance\OL. I don't bother with sneaking ever, so that's up to you.

Okay so I definately need Search to find the traps then..
Not sure about Open Lock either, because I think a hireling or Arcane can get any lock in the game.

Disable, Search, UMD are the trinity. Stash a few points in Open Lock if you want to - its nice but not essential. Since you're a bard you would be putting points in Perform and you'll get a good return on points in Heal. Balance is a good investment too. With the cross class skills and couple of fighter levels, those might be all you can keep maxed.

I won't be bothering with Heal as I'll only be scroll healing myself. I'll probably end up dumping the rest of my skill points into Balance. I just don't want to get caught out requiring some arbitrary amount of points spend in some skill in order to access higher stuff.

I just did a TR life with 1 arti splash. No points in OL, never encountered a single lock I couldn't open in heroics. A different matter in U14+ epics though, even the U14 quests have 70-80 OL DCs after the devs bumped them. At level 28 with 8 epic skills / 25 item / 5 tome / yadda yadda you might be able to get high enough with 0 points though.

If you haven't dumped Int completely you should have skill points to burn. I like Open Lock, personally, although on toons without I pop gold seal rogues from the shards I seem to get just for logging in these days...

I got the Vol lock fine. I do have the Reaver's Fate bracers, though. Fleshmaker's I don't think I tried since there were other pickers in the group.

Don't you have to put at least one rank in it to use it at all, like UMD or Disarm?
Or did they change it to be like Perform?
Or do skill tomes and items allow it to be used if it's a class skill?

Oh, I did put 4 points in OL at creation... I was only thinking of levelups. No skill tomes yet on that character, though I should.

Skill tomes auto-train perform into being not N/A... I'm unsure about the others.

I hope not I ended up dumping Open Lock when I did my +20 LR yesterday. Managed to max UMD, get Perform, Search and Disable to 20 and a 10 in Balance.
Yes I did dump Int.

All I know is you're the person who's started this whole thread cause you've got no fucking clue as to how skills work.
I'm not even trying to troll you, I even gave you a link to the wiki page on skills.

Damn, that reminds me that I meant to check Tumble for that this life, but I forgot and put a point in at creation.
Next life, I suppose.

Never thought of skill tomes. Even without skill tomes I should be able to get mid 70's trap DC's. Haven't really thought about gear yet either.

Okay I've been testing this out for a while and am liking it. Haven't encountered a lock or trap I can't beat yet in EE. Personal DPS is a little weak, but is just fine while Blitzing. Evasion, traps, locks, UMD, CC, heals, buffs, melee DPS, skills, saves, HP, sprint boost etc.
Trying to be any more flexible would put an end to personal DPS altogether, which is why I'm not playing a more caster oriented Bard; I want to be able to solo stuff too. I'll write it up in a bit more detail soon, once I've figured out the optimal enhancement spread.

Not that it's needed - just speeds things up - but PoP's lock is a bitch if you didn't train in OL beyond the 4 starting points. 50DC according to the wiki.
