One day his father saw the pentagram on "unholy strength" in some religious news letter claiming it was turning kids to Satan. He took my entire backpack full of cards and burned them in front of me 


Now no one even thinks about it. Crazy.

I never stopped playing really. Some day I need to sell all those and buy a house. Have you seen the value of them? It's... absurd. I probably have five thousand dollars worth of underground seas sitting in a deck box. Five thosuand dollars being like ten of them.

I don't get it.

Mazes and Monsters, 60 minutes stories, news stories about kids becoming Satan worshipers, or 'the dangers of imagination' if you can believe that. But yeah the backlash was very real.

The Demon hystaria was pretty amazing. I had friends parents that were totally freaked out by the whole thought. One I convinced DnD was cool--'its like playing with plastic soldiers but in medieval times' they understand that I guess.

Add in Heavy Metal- Black Sabbath, Ozzy and bat biting, that terrible Trick or Treat movie...Satan was defiantly taking over the kids of America in the early Eighties.
The reality is D&D made a generation be ok with geek. The first computer games were centered around it, and that geek continued into the new age. We won. Now the dude bro's are the minority, hanging out in our cool house.

My grandmother used to phone all my relatives and tell them I was the devil's child - among the nicest of the ways she treated me b/c of DnD. She had this uncanny ability to know when we were playing, and would phone or show up exactly at game time.

Later on, it turned out she had frontal lobe brain degeneration causing delusional insanity. Everyone was surprised I attended her funeral, though it was mostly to make sure she was actually dead.

Granted I havent slept much and maybe, I am simply underestimating stupidity of this kind of people...

... but I read the kickstarter and I think he is actually mocking those freaks that believs that DnD is pure evil. Right?

Is Dark Dungeons the Movie a satire?

NO! Satire is “a humorously exaggerated imitation.” The most classic example is Swift’s “A Modest Proposal”, in which he mocks the English aristocracy’s indifference to the rural Irish poor by suggesting they eat Irish babies.  This was an exaggeration as the English did not actually hate the Irish enough to eat their babies.  By contrast, Dark Dungeons the comic shows that RPGs can lead to suicide, joining a witches coven, and gaining real life magical powers and Dark Dungeons the movie shows exactly those same things as well.  The film adaptation does not exaggerate or alter those claims. It is NOT a satire.

Funny thing, yesterday that guy showed me a revised edition Underground Sea he is selling for 300 bucks on ebay.


And I take back the "haven't played since ice age" as back in 2008ish I played mtg for a while with an ex girlfriend and her stoner friends.

That is my impression as well. I'd have to see the trailer to be sure though.
