I think a beginner might get more out of tower shield proficiency.

Outside of 1 or 2 named items, tower shields are a trap.

Is that why I always wind up using large shields?  Lips Sealed

Honestly, I was mostly thinking, "Toughness? What is this, 2009?"

Yeah, I'm not happy with Toughness either. It's gonna be Power Attack or Weapon Focus then I guess.

I think I'd rather have PA than Toughness at 1.

I think I'd rather have less Wisdom and more Con.  I don't think I've ever run a Paladin where I didn't dump Wis entirely.  I get not wanting to force a new player to buy pots just to memorize their spells, but some balance should be able to be found.

PA is overrated when not THF IMO. 1st lifers will graze all over the place now, even on normal with a decent to hit ability and Precision active. I'll go with WF.

It is a waste, and it makes me cringe to do it, but it's just one of those newb lens things that aren't going to make sense to anyone not intimately familiar with the game or P&P D&D. They're not going to say "Oh, I need to boost my Wisdom with gear.", they are going to say "Why the hell does the game give me a build that can't cast it's own spells? /Alt+F4"

Will not even have a sp item. Wisdom gives them the sp needed to cast at least a few per shrine. Paladin does not receive magical training feat as a class freebie and the wisdom counts. Cringe to us but the layout is feasible, updated and seems correct.

Can probably take out quicken since they get LoH +3 increases in tree. Getting them to spend AP well is another issue.

I don't think naming names would be a good thing for me to do, but I'd pretty much add anyone who's a know-it-all dick on the list. Even if they are sometimes intelligent with their opinions, the way they state them in long, "i'm a lawyer at trial"-type posts makes me want to punch them in the face. They act like whiney babies with god complexes and then freak out if someone so much as breathes criticism in their direction.

Paladins don't get spells until 4th level.  And then it's level 1 spells, and I think that takes a 9 stat to memorize?  So start them with a 9 Wis.  With the new loot inflation it won't be hard at all to get to a 10 Wis for the level 2 spells that come at 8th level.  The average random +stat is 5 at 8th level.  It might be harder to not equip a +Wis item by 8th level for a new player who will have 'rewards by class' set on by default.  Or at least I think it's on by default.

You're clearly one of the noobs who needs these updated paths.

Laugh it up, funny man.  I will freely admit that I don't bother to memorize things that have zero significance for me.  You do know how to read a question mark, right?  (that there question mark means that I am asking and not certain that you do.)

I drew 9 min stat for a 1st level spell from my equally vague memories of 3.5 D&D, where if you are a full caster you never need to know the minimum because it just doesn't matter.  And I still manage to dump Wis on my Paladins and learn my spells as long as I'm not afraid to use a potion and/or wear a stat item.
