Is anyone else seeing that the "new" forums take a long time to load?
Frankly, I am hesitant to think it is my connection/equipment.

Over time, I've learned from the sage advice of Thrudh, Leslie, and teh_meh - it is.

All lag is the direct result of EVERYONE else having a Nixon-era computer and IP-over-Carrier-Pigeon connection.

All of it.

Regarding "new and improved forums" - Leading up to this, I think they were careful to not say that the change would be an improvement.

they will probably congratulate themselves on how long they "kept it going" never able to see that it could have easily managed to keep itself going for far longer if they had just meddled far less drastically and with some semblance of an actual gameplan.

It's such bullshit, too. I have a carrier pigeon connection, which is currently downloading Neverwinter at somewhere between 113 / 118 kb per sec. Yes, kids, that was kilo there. But I rarely experience lag unless I log on at the weekend. I have a two cans and a piece of string connection and I am basically good in the UK, since I don't play in prime time. Don't get me started on lag o clock though. That's horrible if you live in Japan, Australia, NZ or areas close... right at prime time too.

My Carrier Pigeon Connection downloaded it yesterday at about 250Kb/s ( yup Kilo-Bytes ).

As Tere, Lag is a figment of my imagination... well unless you take into account the lag generated by being in the middle of melee in a raid, where there's a lot of stuff happening on the screens [ And the source for that one is clear : a 7,5 Year old computer ]  or the rare server wide lag spike that gets everybody frozen in place ( including mobs ).

Now the new fucked up forums are... well fucked up...
I don't like SWTOR forums, I don't like NWO forums, ( I don't like them to the point that I don't visit them ) Why the hell did they have to go the same way with a stupid forum style that gives headaches to read, is not resizing with the browser ( come on that's web coding 101, Lesson 3 [ the first two lessons are : what is a computer and what is a web page ] ).

Nope, that's bytes for me... for bits I use : Kbits/s or Mbits/s or I give the Telco Class ( E1, STM1/OC-4, OC-192, ... ) when relevant.

Though there's about 0 chances for it to be relevant for pigeon carrier connections, as it has it's own RFC. See RFC 1149 for more details about Avian ( not limited to pigeon ) Carriers  : http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1149.txt

Still, it exists...

For Karatekid : I knew it existed (and I knew the release date ), it might explain why I just kept digging. Grin

For those of us who have been in the industry:
kB = Kilobytes
kb = kilobits

For all others who don't know how the shift key works back in 1998 (IEC), they use kbit.  Roll Eyes

To reflect that DDO has become a Generic Fantany MMO, WB decided to change the forums login accordingly. This is a version of the ddo login screen I had a few days ago.

I just wish "freigegeben" meant "Hi Welcome". I only came across it as "unclassified", but thought the following was awesome:

Der Handel mit Gelatine, Talg und Rindersamen wird freigegeben.

The ban is to be lifted on trade in gelatine, tallow and semen.

The Diamond is the german equivalent of the PEGI label. In this context, "freigebeben ab 12" means approved for 12 years and up.

I am still getting a down for maintenance message. Old forum links are dead. Is this what everyone else gets? If not what do I have to do to get to these new and improved Turbine DDO forums?

For some odd reason that link also redirects me to http://content.turbine.com/maintenance/

I guess I need to get Al Gore to explain this internets thing to me it still confuses me quite regularly.

Bet you have the old ip in your hosts file, like a lot of people did. The new stuff is on a new server/new ip, you need to go into your hosts file and delete the line.
