Someone please tell Cordovan that asking the players to confirm whether or not +X Heart Reincarnation is fixed is sloppy.

Quote:

Also, please ask him to check it himself if his interest is sincere.

If it's not working, it breaks a character, and that's not reasonable at all.  Very sloppy to ask customers to suffer this.

It's also very sloppy to ask the customers at all.  The current status of this or any bug, open or closed, should be well documented and easily discovered by players and Cordovan alike.

It's also very sloppy to reveal that asking customers about the status of any issue is easier than looking it up yourself.

Sloppy, Sloppy, Sloppy.

It's also funny that he has it wrong.

Original issue was a 20fvs trying to do a 17/2/1 split. Cordovag came in and said "if you have 3 classes blah blah blah" thus totally missing the point.

Players: "Why doesn't Turbine just ask the players??? WE TELL THEM WHEN THINGS ARE BROKEN AND THEY SHOULD KNOW HOW THINGS ARE BROKEN FOR US EVEN IF IT ISN'T SHOWING IN THEIR MODELS"

Turbine: "Hey, I am told something still isn't working, can I get info from the players who might know more? You know, like you've been saying we should do?"

Players: "Why don't you check yourself? HOW DARE YOU ASK US EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE BEEN BEGGING YOU TO DO JUST THAT"

The real answer is to have a real test environment that mirrors the production environment FUCKING EXACTLY and then use it to test things..

Unfortunately, there's about 0 chance of that happening.  I'm not entirely confident that each of the production environments exactly mirror the other production environments.  I'm not sure why that is.  It's like trying to finish filing a bunch of papers while your clothing is on fire.  Once you put out the clothing  that's on fire, the filing is a lot easier.

There's also the fact that some things seem to break without consistency. So for 8 of 10 people, it will be fine, but those other 2 are screwed. It was like that for the TR-ED glitch. So it makes sense if they aren't seeing it to ask the players.

I don't mind asking the players.  I like asking the players as a source of information that exists in addition to testing in an appropriate software environment.  Some stuff is really hard to test and tens of thousands of eyes are better than dozens of eyes.  This just seemed like an appropriate time for me to get on my best-practices soapbox.

Sure, that's legit.

Except the test for it consumes a scarce player game resource (+x Heart of Wood), may cause the testing player to shelve the character used for testing until such time as it can be fixed, and, because "for 8 of 10 people, it will be fine, but those other 2 are screwed", a successful outcome isn't meaningful.

So, please, Turbine, if you're reading check this sort of thing yourself.

I think you're misunderstanding Turbine's question for "has anyone still been having issues with this" and misinterpreting it as "go out and test it cuz we're too lazy."

The former is fine. Actually, it implies some level of care and concern.

The latter would not be fine, especially since, as you said, it consumes a valuable resource.

I concede that I was unfairly misreading "Has anyone attempted to take a third class while having Epic Levels?" as "Go out and test it because we're too lazy".

However
"It seems like this issue may have been fixed, but I can dig around if this is still not working."

could easily have been
"My records indicate that this has been fixed, and when I tested it myself, it worked properly. If anyone has recently had a problem, please PM me with the details so we can correct it."

The former indicates a lack of concern sufficient to perform any diligence and implicitly asks players to do so.  Sloppy.

The latter would have been fine and a real change from past practice.  It would have shown initiative (researched beforehand) and humility (a tacit admission that the fix may not be comprehensive).

So, please, Cordovan, and anyone from Turbine. Don't guess. Log into the game on a live server and check it yourself.

At the very least, make some copies of players' characters, give them hearts of wood, talk to Kruz and find out for yourself.  Then you can sincerely and honestly say "It seems like this issue may have been fixed".

It seems you are mistaking Cordovan for a dev. He doesn't test things. So he got complaints about a thing, he checked on it, he was told it got fixed, so he went back to the players to tell them he was told it was fixed, but if they think otherwise to let him know so he can go back to the people that actually do that stuff.

I'm not seeing the issue. You guys complain when they don't communicate, and then you complain when they do.

Yuppers, finally get some much needed and begged for interaction from them and then sit and watch that exact shit happen and drive the Turbine crew right back into their caves. Even Maj isn't posting here or there like he was just a couple weeks ago.

Oh well, I get it, i would throw my hands in the air and say fuck you to the players as well if this is how I was treated for doing the very exact thing players wanted from me, much easier and more amusing in the long ruin to sit there and watch people whine about no interaction when they can't be happy getting interaction.

Turbine fucks up royally with such frequency that, if you're so inclined to have a bout of Turbine bashing, there are certainly many more worthy cases that this example. You're being pedantic.

I didn't read that he checked on it.

I didn't read that he was told that it got fixed.

He did not say "I checked on it.  I was told that it's been fixed."

He said "It seems like this issue may have been fixed".

I'm not seeing the issue.

Clearly we see different things.

I see
  • a turbine spokesperson saying that as far as he took the time to find out, an issue that's been open for nearly a year may or may not be closed
  • him saying that he can dig around if someone tells him it's still not working
  • After he says that he can look into it, I see him guess incorrectly at the issue that was well documented in the OP and well explained by himself in the 12th message in the thread

I see this in the context of a game that is a lot of fun, where it's easy to see a lot of love put into craftsmanship and details, but also has way too many things that get started and not finished.

It's avoidably sloppy.

The issue I see is a disinterest in following up on an issue that's been open for nearly a year.  Just enough interest to respond, but not enough to actually do anything.

It would be nice if Cordovan would wave pom-poms before responding to every forum thread, but that's not reasonable.  What is reasonable is to at least make it sound like an effort had been made to follow through on the matter.

Communication is nice, but does anyone think players want "I didn't test it on live, but I think it's fixed. I can look into it if there are complaints."  That's not interaction.  That's disinterest.

He could have said nothing.  It's what he'd done since 28 August 2012 and again when the topic was bumped in March.

He could also have said "This was fixed in such-and-such update/hotfix.  If anyone has had a problem with it recently, please contact me so we can identify and correct the problem."

Turbine fucks up royally with such frequency that, if you're so inclined to have a bout of Turbine bashing, there are certainly many more worthy cases that this example. You're being pedantic.

You might be right, however I submit to you that it wouldn't be a bad thing if Turbine moved their needle closer to "a pedantic attention to details" and further from "this is good enough for now - we'll get around to making sure all the epic destinies work some time later".

they will probably congratulate themselves on how long they "kept it going" never able to see that it could have easily managed to keep itself going for far longer if they had just meddled far less drastically and with some semblance of an actual gameplan.

Hearing something has "merit" but we don't have "time" kind of says everything about how Turbine works on things.

everyone but turbine knows that we are sad they are destroying our game

I don't make the game, I just get tested what they build. Sorry you are not happy.

DDO is easy to summarize - the greatest game to suck the most ass.

Turbine - So incompetent that we are skeptical when they report their own incompetence.

Other companies will settle for shitting out garbage, Turdbin actually prefers to. Especially if they can get us to buy it, that just cracks them up.

Breaking something and putting it back together isn't as good as not breaking it to begin with, it's not even close.

Devs do not care what players want - they already have an agenda and give out token gestures so the paladins can feel worthy.

The DDO devs aren't motivated by a positive user experience.
