I suddenly remembered that there WAS an alternative forum. It was a Vault spinoff called "The Cavern" or "Gawna's Cavern".

It lasted about two weeks or so till someone hacked it and ruined it.

Sad

Seems so.

Are you sure Gawna's cavern wasn't "hacked" and "ruined" multiple times previously? Roll Eyes

This.
I would like another forum beside this one to actually have an adult discussion.
I come here for entertainment that's all.

So I actually liked Geoff Hanna's write up he posted a few threads down.

And if you look at the comments section of his post, there's a lot of "Vault has awseom stuff in it, but is 90% terrible and I can't take it".

It's true, this place is a cesspool. Some of us are more guilty than others, and a lot of people will say "we're consenting adults, grow a sack, whatever".

But wouldn't it be nice to have a forums that have more people participating or at least reading, contributing to DDO, but without Jerry? Is it even possible to have some sort of middle ground?

On a personal level I try to self-censor, but some people are just such magnificent trolls that it can be very hard. I will be interested to see if anyone posts a serious response to this or if I get a lot of donuts and boobs.

The purpose of the vault is the call out other players for being dipshits (either ingame or in RL) without moderation. Anything else about game development or exploits is just horseshit.

My opinion:  The Vault has been around for 5 years now because it serves multiple audiences.  You have former players of DDO who enjoy conversation, mostly in Off Topic and P&R and such.  You have current players who are looking for DDO conversation and sharing of ideas (read: exploits).  You have idiots and attention seekers who can't control themselves enough to not get banned on the main boards and come here to fly their stupid flag.

I play DDO casually these days and can find the game information and recommendations hidden in the weeds of trolling and maturity issues of some posters.  Probably more cool things to check out than time to do it.  There are some very knowledgeable players here and the builds section can be very helpful.  You just have to ignore the emotionally stunted posts.  I also enjoy the off topic/P&R stuff as a fun time waster and hanging with some people that have a lot of common interests, even if their political views are kinda whack.

It would be nice if some of the LCD weren't here, but what are you going to do?  It's easier to ignore them than to make a massive plan to try to get rid of them.

Shhh, don't talk of the Week of Terror and the Stainercalypse. Those are the only Topic never ever to discuss on the Vault.

Why not?

Because it takes extra effort to read through any drama involving Stainer's title.

It took me one right click and one left click to block his title.

That's less effort than it takes to scroll through some of the "posts" we have these days.

I don't think naming names would be a good thing for me to do, but I'd pretty much add anyone who's a know-it-all dick on the list. Even if they are sometimes intelligent with their opinions, the way they state them in long, "i'm a lawyer at trial"-type posts makes me want to punch them in the face. They act like whiney babies with god complexes and then freak out if someone so much as breathes criticism in their direction.

And people wonder why I don't want to moderate... it's fuckin work, man! Like, three or even four clicks! That's 50-100% more than the effort required to read stainer drama!

A new site obviously isn't going to fly.

If we're adding Mods to the vault, then I think some boards would appreciate moderation more than others.
