Sev getting moved off DDO
Jul 7th, 2015 at 7:59am
Print Post
HOT NEWS, A college friend of mine who works for Turdbine shared this shop gossip, word among staff is that Severlin was notified that he will be moved  the end of the month and that Vargouille will have the interim producer responsibilities for the next quarter until Turbine brings in a new producer. No word on where he is being moved to.

Good news!

That's a pretty good call Grand, and fresh as well. I myself only started to hear rumblings about this very late last week, although I did get the impression he was being moved out of any kind of game production entirely.

I wouldn't think that anyone who has kept track of Sev's posting and profile moves for the last six weeks will be very surprised, the writing has been on the wall.

I was really hoping for a link to an announcement when I saw this topic, but a rumour from a friend is still pretty cool  Smiley

Of course, if the last 8 couldn't, one more new producer isn't likely to change the culture there, but I still have a little spark of hope. When's the IC spin down, August? Or am I confusing it with Wildstar F2P? I can't keep one hyped game I didn't play separate from another  Embarrassed

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

They won't post any kind of public announcement until they have a new producer fully settled in, and a plan going forward. The split on the U26 and U27 wasn't seen as a positive move by management, so I would be really surprised if they leave a interim team minding the shop past August.

I will be very curious to see if word spreads on the DDO Forums, and how they deal with it if it does. I imagine they will try to sit on this if at all possible.

If anyone wants to discuss privately, send me a PM, I would be happy to compare notes.

Well if Varg is the place holder, I guess that means he won't get the gig right?

Here is an idea, how about they get a producer from a successful game company?

I can't imagine how bad the financial loss is since Sev_Pay took "direction" of the game. Majmal said what, 15 - 20 k daily unique logins when he was leaving ddo ?
Sure feels like population or activity is halved or even less compared to last year or few months ago.
Soon we will see "limited" Otto boxes in the store permanently.
The damage has been done though, to unfuck all the stuff is certainly gonna be Sisyphean task.
The game took a big dive under Sev_Pay - seems to be quite popular sentiment.

Either way, good news if it's true.

I'm on my way out to sacrifice a chicken to the pagan gods, just to be safe.

Anyone feel like burning DDO F*rums account to post about this there? see if we can get a flabbergasted Jerry comment? or should we jump him on twitch tomorrow instead?

Ok there has been some talk in the IIRC lately pointing towards that direction.

Goodmorning Boss from Steel to Vargouille when he logs.

Vargouille moving to a bigger better place (prolly got updated to Junior Producer salary?).

Similar boosted interaction like Sev had at his Early Producer days and less Soonish© responses.

If you are watching DDOstream you can also see Sev going more and more to Varg`s office which is located at Jerry`s left side during their lunchbreak.

Warlock was a sucess and we know that its mostly Vargouille`s personal project.

It was a close call between Steel and Varg but..

I would like to welcome our new Producer Vargouille

If this is true, and not wishful thinking.... (dreams can come true....)   Grin

If nothing else changes, then no successful Producer is going to touch the role.
Why?
1. It's a dead end job in failing product in a failing company.
2. They would need to move to Boston - not sure Boston is the hub of software development?  (yes, I know there are a few studios)
3. Turdbine aren't renowned for paying well.
4. Both DDO and LOTRO are under resourced, with ridiculous milestone timelines forcing them to pump out incomplete product.
5. Going by anecdotal reports of those who have left, the company is cheap as - no budget for anything including equipment.
Whilst individually these might not dissuade some people, all those factors combined make a pretty appalling proposition.

My guess is they'll assign some poor bastard from within WB as part of their long term managerial development.
Probably someone's corporate golden child where the role is seen as a no lose situation:
1.  If the person succeeds and turns DDO around, then they're a legend.
2.  If they fail and DDO dies, then it was a lame duck anyway, so all is golden.

Interesting times.

I would like to see a new Producer from outside the Turdbine structure with a plan and a budget to make a difference.  I'd support that.
Given the corporate mandate to go mobile, I don't see it happening though.    Undecided

I've met them both.  Not a tough choice:  Tolero > Jerry.

Otherwise known as the 'Stephen King's Carrie - the musical' of the game world.

All the reviews I've read of it basically said the developers were out of touch of both what comic book fans of DC comics and gamers wanted.  Turbine might as well change their motto to:

We don't play games, but if we did, here's what we think we would like.

Turbine policy - glitches and poor coding resulting in interference of your game play or enjoyment will be ignored.  Glitches or poor coding on the developers side that at all benefit your game play or enjoyment will result in your character being banned and/or items from your inventory deleted.  Please report all bugs via our bug report...when it works.

Anybody from that existing team is going to be hamstrung by the existing culture and the fixation with F_ernando's policies.  Nothing will change.
You could give the plaque to the Janitor and the outcomes will be the same.
Uninspired, incomplete product pumped out every 3 months.
