Yeah what happened to CoH was a crime. They should have allowed them to move on and make CoH 2 or something else. The team that closed that shop were awesome. They loved that game. The sad shitty thing the corps don't get is its not the franchise, or even the tech, its the people. With every thinning of the herd good talent is removed, both from the game team, and from the industry. The team I've been building over the past 2 years is a group I want to make games with for years to come. I want to retire with these guys. We are a team, not just hired hands thrown on a project, which sadly is what happens in the WB world. Its not passion, its just another head on the project.
You sir have made my coming to these forums far more worthwhile then the mere idle banter and bickering about mutual bitterness that was expected.
Clearly you are indeed one of those who is a old school gamer at heart who loves the work as where many of your kindred at paragon studios. Whatever the game project may be that you and yours work on gamers would be wise to at least stay aware of it even if not of a genre they may normally play if for no other reason then you clearly care about the game and gamer not just the bottom line.
Its partly why I've sworn off MMO the corporate powers that be all want to turn them into wow or nickel and dime con operations. Several indie games like Path of Exile started as prove quality and caring can and will bring in loyal customers.
One the horizen I found on steam still being developed called planet explorers has that kind of vibe. I also think they may really benefit from veteran developers like yourself. As a gamer I can say if I heard you had decided to join development of a game like that I'd probably be overwhelmed by a feeling like game making was seeing a new hope.
You are no rat who jumped ship IMO but the old soldier who saw the war was already lost and left a bloody battlefield where you knew battle and bloodshed from then on would be meaningless.
