A Ding just means that you've been spot on in one of your quoted comments.... Nothing more, nothing less.

Sorry to deflate your head swell before it starts.  Cheesy

Actually that is quite a nice ego boost. I've actually tried to get that very point across to MMO gamers before that the game worlds we come to love and even the developer teams when they are doing truly great work and the game making solid earning and having an active stable subscriber base can still be yanked in a blink if the corporate umbrella decides it doesn't want it under their shade anymore.

Yeah what happened to CoH was a crime. They should have allowed them to move on and make CoH 2 or something else. The team that closed that shop were awesome. They loved that game.  The sad shitty thing the corps don't get is its not the franchise, or even the tech, its the people. With every thinning of the herd good talent is removed, both from the game team, and from the industry. The team I've been building over the past 2 years is a group I want to make games with for years to come. I want to retire with these guys. We are a team, not just hired hands thrown on a project, which sadly is what happens in the WB world. Its not passion, its just another head on the project.

just hired hands thrown on a project,

You know that's how things are everywhere in the industry...
People working on a project are just hired hands working on said project... and when it's finished they move on to the next project.

The whole point is that the gaming industry cannot use what is common practice in the rest of the industry ( there's a few other kind of specific industry that has to have their own practice ), but the PHB's in control have no clue about that, since it's not what they are taught in their elite business schools. So they apply the tricks they have been taught and just roll on... Anyway they don't care, in 3/4 years they either will be higher in the corporate food chain or gone to another company to a job higher in the corporate food chain.

You sir have made my coming to these forums far more worthwhile then the mere idle banter and bickering about mutual bitterness that was expected.

Clearly you are indeed one of those who is a old school gamer at heart who loves the work as where many of your kindred at paragon studios. Whatever the game project may be that you and yours work on gamers would be wise to at least stay aware of it even if not of a genre they may normally play if for no other reason then you clearly care about the game and gamer not just the bottom line.

Its partly why I've sworn off MMO the corporate powers that be all want to turn them into wow or nickel and dime con operations. Several indie games like Path of Exile started as prove quality and caring can and will bring in loyal customers.

One the horizen I found on steam still being developed called planet explorers has that kind of vibe. I also think they may really benefit from veteran developers like yourself. As a gamer I can say if I heard you had decided to join development of a game like that I'd probably be overwhelmed by a feeling like game making was seeing a new hope.

You are no rat who jumped ship IMO but the old soldier who saw the war was already lost and left a bloody battlefield where you knew battle and bloodshed from then on would be meaningless.

Yeah, that's what many of us thought when we first read his posts, too. It got a lot more complicated when more details about that round of layoffs came out, and when some believed he'd make the QoL changes if they handed him the exploits of the day. Make your own judgements, but don't make this one hastily.

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

Indeed.

Carefully examine the timing of all the things he said and compare it to when he knew about when his move to Lotro and the layoffs would take place.

He's a lot less bad than most of the EPs, but he's no selfless angel.

No use rehashing, really. A paycheck is important and always worth considering. You were paid to shit on us, and it wouldn't have been your first choice. I'm pretty sure we understand that. You're still not looking in the right place if you want to find people who are happy or forgiving about being shat on.

This.

You may not have had a choice about going to LOTRO, but that's not what pissed people off. What pissed people off *was* under your control - what you said here when you clearly knew it was not correct, or at least highly improbable. Or maybe it was technically correct but intentionally misleading.

Whatever. I appreciate your passion for gaming and wish you success in your endeavours. I'd even rather have you at the helm of DDO. My respect is diminished, but I don't think you're a complete ass hole.

MajorMal I appreciated your responses and I don't have the anger issues others have.

You were probably being monitored by Turbine, and the brown shirts at Turbine were only glad to stab you in the back.  I will assume that some of these brown shirts are still employed at Turbine and enjoying Free Fruit Tuesdays and Free Bagel Fridays.
