It's statements like this that remind me how fucking amazing the DDO Store people are.
Ok, put away the pitchforks for a second here and hear me out. They have a product so shitty yet still addictive enough in other ways that people are willing to figure out how they can straight faced say, "but I only spent $2 per hour of the gaming time I avoided having to play."
I think you are missing the point. The point isn't about whether or not you enjoy playing the game. I was assuming anyone playing the game and spending money was enjoying the game. If you are spending money on a game you don't like playing then that does seem like a waste of money.
The point I was trying to make is that some people have more time than money. For them, spending $30 on a box to skip past 18 hours of play time makes no sense. Because the $30 is more valuable than the 18 hours. The 18 hours is a few days of game time at max.
Others have more money than time. They want the past lives, but they also want to run raids and farm slavers with their guildies. If they only have 10 hours per week of game time, they won't ever TR because it will take them 2-3 weeks to get back to a point where they can run with their friends. But they have plenty of money in the bank, own their car and house outright, have plenty of money in retirement accounts, and are living comfortably. To them $30 is not significant. But 18 hours is.
Some people have both time and money. I would venture to guess they don't buy to bypass, again, because the opportunity cost of 2-3 days is not so much. Who knows. maybe they do.
Some people have neither money nor time. These are probably the ones who have reduced down to running fewer characters, or who don't TR, or who never run epics or who are not focused particularly on completionists or, are just happy to make whatever progress they can at whatever pace they can and just enjoy the journey and not worry about how long it takes.
At the end of the day, if people can afford it and want it and will pay for it and it doesn't break the game experience for me, then Turbine should provide it. It keeps the lights on.
