I remember reading on one of the dev's MyDDO pages that the Coal Chamber voice change is totally unintended (NO RLY???).  It said they probably had the voice actor try a bunch of different voices and then used the wrong ones which is why it's not consistent.

Examples?

Already listed the random encounter node system, so there's that for keeping you guessing once you know the terrain like the back of your hand.

Blue vs green random loot + level appropriateness is another, but leaving Canith fallow when it's obvious to anyone that looks at the new exploits they entered into the system when they played with what's a pre/suffix that it's half-automated already. (Maj, consider this my bug report since I was asked to lay off till they 'had more bandwidth' :p)

The tech is obviously there for flying mobs judging by the Chronoscope Abishai, and that would add reams to the 3d game, not to mention give a small bump to ranged as utility vs 'just throw bigger numbers at it'.

They've got the tech for mines now, but it's neither useful outside of soloing, nor used by mobs in a non-static manner.

They've got a dodge score but no touch attack check vs it (since it's the closest PnP concept to the notion) for players or mobs, and seem if anything to be leaning more towards stat-simplification, not more required to do more things, if the PRE writeups are anything to be take as an indication.

Should I continue?

My post wasy back when:  http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=325048

Basically D&D online spelled the doom for me avoiding MMO's.

Spell animations look like they probably should.  Same for sounds.

Artwork is generally pretty good.

Bugs are silly out of control right now and hopefully they get a chance to pay down some technical debt and fix a lot of things.

You must be playing a different game than I am.  Voice acting in DDO is horrendously done.  Gianthold falsetto voices make my ears bleed.  The only voice acting Turbine did well is getting the actor for Deckard CainEliminster, but he's got very little dialogue so far.

It should have been Ed Greenwood.

What MMOs are you comparing DDO against?

Best in what ways?  While the forums are better moderated than other MMOs, the quality is mediocre.

I started playing mmorpg's back with UO, then migrated to EQ, GW, AC and a few others of little note. Chit man, im over 40 now, I can barely remember my name let alone games I played  Grin

As for the community, I am speaking of the players and less of the forums. It just seemed to me that the player base was very involved, active and just well.... damn good. The past year or so I will not speak of since a vast amount of folks I knew left or barely play.

In no way was I speaking of the {fek I had to edit myself it was so derogatory} that call themselves turbine community reps.

Every D&D fanboi would have jizzed in their pants if Ed Greenwood lent his voice to Forgotten Realms quests ala Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson.  How the fuck did this not happen?  Why has Monte Cook and other D&D gamergods not lent their voice to DDO content?

Rhetorical of course, unless you're secretly a DDO line producer.

Gianthold voice acting isn't bad humor; it's slipshod on a shoestring budget.

As was (and yes, I'm still pissed about this) fucking up Fred's voice in Sane Asylum.  Those two packs were some of the best storytelling in DDO, and they completely borked the voice in SA.  Only thing I can figure is they ran into an issue with the voice actor and had to pull his work out after a bit.  But the new voiceover is crap.

This is Turbine - do some things really well, then step on them.

The falsetto voices are fucking awesome. One of the few things in the game that's a throwback to real D&D.

I always think they were trying for a little of the retro pen and paper feel with the GH voice acting, personally. Plus of course the woman crying for help isnt actually female.

I like the lady who does the Droaam stuff, she is quite easy on the ears. Enjoyed Yalthoon and the green dragon in Dont Drink the Water too.

People keep claiming this - but in my experience a mob will hit you even if you are a mile away from it.

You never had an ogre triple hit you after you saw it wind up and ran 200 yard away?

really?

"active dodging" may work - but it' snot as "active" as you think - the mob rolls an attack roll before you even see it start to swing - if that roll hits - you get hit, regardless of where your client moved your toon to.

It's all an illusion Smiley

Triple hits.  Yea, that got "fixed" back in the great stealth TWF nerf.  I guess it was something they "got" right  but no longer "have" right.

They would need to change the ESRB rating.
