Do they actually know what deprecate means?

When they drop this shit in, why don't they explain it? Or is this part of their being mysterious.....   Huh

Does this mean that all the Mabar ingredients will now be as useless as all the other ingredients, because they're making them redundant?

I think they are trying to stop people from auctioning the old mabar ingredients at the prices the new ones command. There was some serious buthurt from people who thought they were buying stacks of current motes but got the old duped motes. And rightly so, that was a stupid and lazy move on Turdbin's part, exactly what we expect from the lazy and incompetent fools  Sad

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

True Story:

I bought me one of the snazzier cosmetic outfits during the recent sale.

I said to a Guildee: "I wonder when the new update is coming out?"

He said: "As soon as you click 'Quick Buy'."

Yup.

On the bright side, this looks like an underwhelming pack (again, although I didn't loathe Archons as much as I thought I would) so I can wait to grind the TP for it.

At least they finally added a bashing tower shield. I am pro-Sword and Board, even if it is Hella-Gimp. Grin

I imagine either you won't be able to buy stuff when Mabar is back (whole new ingredient set) or you won't be able to buy new stuff they put in with old ingredients. More likely the former given the effort they put into most things these days.

Don't laugh. Haven't they recycled every other obsolete discarded instance? Smuggler's Rest? Inspired Quarter? Chronoscope?

They might not call it Mabar, but I bet it will come back.

I find it amusing that many people (some who should know better) really think they killed Mabar because of the lag.

Because too many people had duped ingredients and keys and could bypass the grind the devs wanted us to endure. We weren't amusing enough for them.

I do believe Mabar was killed because of the crippling lag it sent through the entire server and the almost uncompletable spectral dragon.
The rage was enormous at the time, and there was plenty of griefing too.  Too hard to fix (like everything else), so they parked it.

Duped mats wasn't it - other events with duped mats still happen - Cove, Coin turn-in etc.

Changing the mats was because of duping.

The Mabar lag is fixable.

Backley (Orien's Item/R) sorted out the cause of the lag and had a well documented and easy to implement from the player's side procedure that completely mitigated it.  I'm pretty sure Backley's solution was to stagger the startup of the different dragon instances.

The root problem is that the solution was devised by the players, and since the players "just don't understand" the complexities of coding in the environment that is completely unique to Turbine, they won't implement it.

At least not until they decide that it was their idea all along, like fixing the ToD set items to not decrement action boosts when they were removed/re-equipped, or adding pre-load functionality to the client, or the Abbot loot tables, or the many other things the players figured out because they love the game and want it to be successful.

Yes, I was trying to explain pnellson's statement, not necessarily claim it as a complete explanation. I'm not sure why mabar isn't coming back but cove is. My guess is that both lag and duping played a role, and perhaps the remembered shame of maban.

Maybe Cove is more popular and less problematic than Mabar, and they can't replace both events, so they scrapped the weaker one?

Personally, I'd rather they kept Cove than Mabar, so I'll play up the Mabar lag and downplay the Cove lag, it's not like I have to be impartial or anything  Cheesy

Backley bit isn't enough to fix the lag... a Good part of the lag comes from the Instances and how the game work... sending 24˛ updates ( plus mob, dragon, pet, and more ) is an instance killer ( and if you add what Backley said, more or less everybody is doing the same thing at the same time : killing Dwagon, so it's 24˛ updates (plus al lthe rest ) by the number of active instances )... But well spaghetti code, Sloppy Work and Coding Monkeys... It's easier for the curent crop of devto scrap Maban and do Something Else ( by the way we still have no clue what that Something Else will be ) than to try to fix some old code... It's better on the resume ( created a new event > fixed a broken event ).

Backley's work around very reliably mitigated the lag.  It "fixed" the lag well enough for >5 instances to repeatedly complete.

Agreed
Tomes and other powerful shinies coming from events should never be luck based.

Other than the fact that the mimic event was stupid as fuck I couldn't get the tome despite hours of farming the bank quest while other people I knew barely "contributed" and got their tome right away. So Hell no
