https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/470615-DDO-Producer-s-Letter!

Quote:
Greetings! I'm Severlin, Executive Producer for Dungeons & Dragons Online, and I'm writing today to update you on our plans for the coming months.

One of the first things I wanted to mention was that I want to do these letters more frequently. You've been getting yearly Producer's Letters, but I like to speak more often to the community, so instead of a year-long list, I'd like to give us room to respond to your wants through the year. That means this letter will focus on the quarter ahead, and I will be back this Spring with an update.

Looking back on 2015, we gave ourselves an ambitious schedule, and delivered a huge amount of raiding, questing, class work, and more. Here are just some of the things we accomplished:

- 4 Raids
- 3 Monster Manuals
- 11 new quests, including the Temple of Elemental Evil classic dungeon
- Rogue, Ranger class updates
- New class: Warlock (along with its associated enhancements, spells, etc.)
- New seasonal event: The Night Revels
- A greatly improved random loot system
- Legendary Greensteel
- A level cap of 30, along with Legendary and Epic Destiny Feats

We also made some quality of life improvements like being able to craft from your shared bank, consume tomes at any level, and shop in an improved DDO Store.

The main focus of this quarter will be one of DDO's biggest milestones - our 10th Anniversary! We'll be throwing a big party towards the end of February, with gifts, prizes, events, and surprises. We will debut a free multi-character-level dungeon (similar to the way our Night Revels dungeons work) that will be a tongue-in-cheek story featuring some of DDO's most popular and enduring characters and NPCs. It'll also give you the opportunity to defeat some "devs" in battle. Yes, I plan to try to kill you in-game.

Update 30 will also debut the long-anticipated Gnome race, along with the Deep Gnome Iconic! We will debut an updated Cannith Crafting system that ties in nicely with the new randomly-generated loot system that released in Update 29. We're also bringing out the bug zapper in the coming weeks to get rid of some of the things we've been hearing from you about. We'll be previewing much of Update 30 in the coming weeks on Lamannia. As always, we look forward to your feedback.

Thanks for posting, much appreciated.

I'm really unimpressed by Sev's letter. It practically reads like he had to write it because his job forces him to do so.

Are they making plans on the fly with each update or they have a long term vision?

I thought the 2015 PC post was more informative:

https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/470569-2015-Player-Council-Redux

Quote:
Hey folks,

In the same spirit as the thread made for the 2014 Player Council, I am posting this one with a rough outline of the discussions made during the 2015 year.

And I thank the Devs for having this type of preview feedback and listening to the players. One Final Note: There are some things that the PC are still held to an NDA. So while I, and others would be, happy to discuss some things there are some that we are not yet able to comment on. Please be respectful of this.

I like that the letter isn't a forum post. Now when he edits it, no one will ever know. Well I guess we will since the original text is pasted here.

Also it means he doesn't have to bother to respond.

Dear players,

The D&D rules you were familiar with were too simple to understand, so we're continuing our move away from them to needlessly confusing subsystems that will make your play experience less fun and invalidate old builds and loot. We hope you have fun working out what the fuck MRR, PRR, MP, SP, RP, CL, MCL and all the other bullshit we made up whilst drunk means.

Love,

People who don't know how to fix their own mistakes cleanly

Yeah, this!

It reminds me of a great quote from a Total Quality Management guide I read "If the extent of commitment from management is putting up motivational posters and witty slogans, you'd better mount them pretty high up on walls so your employees can't easily reach them with markers"

I think this counts as mounting a motivational poster pretty high up a wall.

is great. actually surprised by the amount of people posting there that see it for what it is.

Velrad on page 1, called Sev out for his " 4 new raids!!" bullshit. I wouldn't even have credited him DoJ as one. It was borrowed from everything already inside amrath packs. Still feel they should have simply went with the better raid in epic ToD instead of not in the slightest creative, total garbage that is DoJ.

these devs have no passion for what they do. all their quest and raid ideas suck donkey dick. look at that shitty xoriat update. the fuk was that. then they continue with it and give us waterworks part 8. Just because the red cube is cool doesnt make it okay.

FranOhmsford Sez:

- A greatly improved random loot system?

Please tell me Sev's kidding? This is absolutely full of bugs! Makes many items of named loot utterly worthless and how exactly am I supposed to fit in all these Insightful bonuses while maintaining the absolute requirements like Heavy Fort {Don't get me started on the new Fortification numbers in low level random loot - That's the one specific are where named loot is unequivocally better than RNG!} and Resistance!

Oh and Please tell me that you're not going to release Gnomes looking like that - The Hair and Beard look like cheap costume wigs from a fancy dress shop! And the faces and bodies are way too similar to Halflings {Gnomes should be more like smaller Dwarves!}.

DON'T GET HIM STARTED ON THE NEW FORTIFICATION NUMBERS ON LOW LEVEL RANDOM LOOT!

Bullshit.
