And then, according to Flav, WotC keeps making it difficult to connect directly to FR.
Yes and no.
There's several issues :
- DDO is 3.5 ( well initially, nowadays it's debatable ), so the Official Support World is Eberron.
- The difficult bit of Faerun is the Sword Coast, especially everything around Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Baldur's Gate and so on.
I suspect that the Stormhorns and Anauroch is the limit they can reach going west on Faerun. Everything west of that limit is
for Neverwinter use.
- Lately we saw a concerted effort between WoTC, Turbine and Cryptic to release identically themed updates/books, so it's clear that
WoTC/Hasbro is pulling the strings and making sure to separate clearly the two MMOs.
- Last and most important in my mind... Eberron is a world, Faerun is another world, Greyhawk is a third one... And while are all D&D support worlds,
WoTC wants to keep them separate so that they can revive one or the other depending on what sells at a time.
Right now it seems Faerun sells well, so they give us some Faerun books, but if sales start dropping, they will go back to Eberron, or one of the world they fully own [ don't
expect Sigil, Ravenloft, Athas, Krynn or Mystara. As far as I can tell the IPs on those 5 are so muddled that it would take years and an army of lawyers to get it sorted to
everybody's involved satisfaction, at best they might get the Ravenloft and Ravenloft II modules IPs sorted for MMO use, but definitely not the settings ]
