Gear setup guide from lvl 20 to cap

Print Post
Figured I'd make a guide for people who hate re-gearing (like I do) every few levels between 20 and cap, so here is a set of gear that is "universally" useful.  All level 20.
*Can be changed for caster type gear

This layout specific for melees
Obviously slot other things you need/want

Helm: Deadly helm of accuracy*
Neck: Epic Golden guile
Trinket: Epic gem of many facets*
Gloves: Epic gloves of the claw*
Cloak: Epic envemonded cloak
Belt: Epic spare hand*
Goggles: Tharnes goggles*
Armor: Black scale armour/white/blue
Wrists: Bracers of the sun soul
Boots: Epic rock boots
Ring 1: Epic ring of the master artifice
Ring 2: Epic ring of the stalker
Weapon: So many options  alchems/esos/gs

Will make another layout for caster types later

Not sure I agree with several choices.  Unless you are a WF/Bladeforged, what is the point of the Master Artificer ring on a melee?  I'd rather have a ToD ring there.

Your helm is weak.  Tharnes is only good for true seeing on anything that isn't a rogue.  Get the Deadly/accuracy there and go with the Epic Helm of Frost for the Abashai set.  Way better.

Of course, the difference between a dex build and a strength build is considerable for gear.  I see a lot of sneak attack, deception, and other rogue gear but no dex item or Int.  Your dex, Int, and Charisma are going to be very low with this gear set you propose and your strength is going to be off by 6 from an optimal gear set for a strength build.  Con is solid.  Wisdom is acceptable for most non-monk melee builds.   I'd rethink.

This gear set is a non-starter for any rogue, ranger, monk, bard, fighter, pally, or barbarian build that I can think of.

Especially since your gear set includes 5 BTC Seal/Shard/Scroll items that weren't easy to get when people actually ran that content.

Most players would be better served to just use comms and get eveningstar trader items.  It's quick and easy.

Since nobody runs ToD anymore, I'd say the Master artificer ring is not only easier to get, but also brings a green slot, spell points for cacoon, and a colorless for slotting stats.  Which brings me to the next part.  Slot all of the stats you want/need. (fort, cha, int, dex, false life)

What are you talking about my strength being off by 6?  Between your gloves of the claw and epic gem of many facets, base damage will be +7 (assuming you are using 2wf)  Which is equivalent (for damage purposes but not to-hit) +14 strength

And with tharnes if you got decent attack speed in combo with the golden guile it will add some handy dps.

You can of course get the frenzied bezerker belt instead of spare hand.  and the ring as well, but that'll take foreverrrr.

True.
But this guide is only for level 20 gear, if you want to post about all the optimal gear through the epic levels then go on ahead.
I dont like wasting time swapping gear and more gear for measly bonuses like +12 prr and mrr.  Especially since the different % damage blocked is small and diminishing. (Especially if you got lots already standing at 20)

Surely at some point after taking level 25 you will have 5 spare seconds waiting for a guy to pick up Raiyum's Phylactery that you can hit "i" and doubleclick 4 times. Same thing at 27.

Subject says level 20 to cap BTW.

Yeah.

For someone who wasn't around when the SSS system was, Five Foot's list is a lot more appealing, even if you elect not to change it at later levels.  I like Five foot's suggestions.
Even the gear he mentions to swap in is fairly easy to get too.
Let's file those as "more practical" options if not optimal.

Froggy - I understand your OP, and I'm glad it works for you, but I would suggest the audience for it is fairly small?
How many people are around from that time of DDO, and even then, how many finished all those items?
I spoke to some guildies and the best I could find was one guy who had maybe 3 of your items, and he wasn't sure he had kept any of them in his clean outs.

BtA/BtC ingredient trading + Dupapalooza + Conversion of epic items to essences at the same time period was AMAZEBALLS!

A few of like minded buddies hooked me up then I spread the wealth for the whole guild.
So many cool items, Red Dragon helms, Red dragon shards, eSoS mats, you name it.

Big thumbs up for people who also converted, multiplied and spread heroic Abbot raid gear for the rest of us.  Grin

Nice.  Goddamn shame I missed that!

Aren't most of those old epic items outclassed now?
Some of the Wheloon stuff and the Eveningstar turn in gear is pretty good for most classes.

At 20 ? Most likely heroic raid crap and epic Marilith for old times sake.

Idgaf until Citw weapons but it's almost always Avithoul + Dunrobar combo, Mitts, Optics. Black set.

Golden Guile, rock boots ? What the fuck.
I mean I made Chaosblade or Thornlord just for fun but ...

Dear players,

The D&D rules you were familiar with were too simple to understand, so we're continuing our move away from them to needlessly confusing subsystems that will make your play experience less fun and invalidate old builds and loot. We hope you have fun working out what the fuck MRR, PRR, MP, SP, RP, CL, MCL and all the other bullshit we made up whilst drunk means.

Wait until you see the new random loot on live. If they kept it like it was on lamaland a couple of good random items may be the best thing you can get at level 20-24.

I found a level 23 clever (astute) helm of intimidate yesterday, something my completionist pale master wouldn't have touched with a stick befor the loot update. But it has +9 INT on it and that is better than any level 23 raid or quest item in my TR cache.

Ever since the ship buffs got introduced to the game, equipment was pretty much pointless for TR'ing, weapons were all that mattered.

Screaming of bleeding 0-4
Heavy fortification ring 1-12
Some white spell resistance cloak & whatever random loot I picked up paired with my hoarded weapons 4-greensteel.

Greensteel weapons from level 8-20
greensteel equip from 12-20.
Esos 20-cap (old red slots & devil assault augments)
3 piece abishai 20-cap (cloak/helm/bracers)
Night Hags Heartstone 13-cap
Gloves - PDK 20-cap
red armor 20-25 (black 25+)
Goggles GS blurry item with cha skills & spell points to cap
Necklace clickies/ epic torc
Challenge belt 20-cap
stalker ring 20-cap
epic ring of the mire 20-cap

Ravager set would replace challenge belt and mire ring for characters that had it.

This advice was bought to you straight from 2012.

Ravager set would replace challenge belt and mire ring for characters that had it.

This advice was bought to you straight from 2012.

ive never disagreed with you before but this is objectively wrong. you can do the same "fuck gear attitude" but with far better items that are far easier to acquire. i typically change gear once at 14 and then again at 28. todays random gen is better than pretty much everything you suggest and the cannith shit today is great and again easy as fuck as long as you didnt start your ddo career tomorrow. Your suggestions are only good for someone who acquired the best gear available 5 years ago and then quit the game. more than half the items you list are only useful in a vendors "sell" tab. aside from the esos and the green steel, those items all under perform compared to the shit youll loot while wearing them.

the gear set you suggest is not a "fuck gear" gearset, but a "i intentionally gimped myself" gearset
