Indeed, this is getting it to work like it should have, but it's been in its current state for so long that we know folks will consider this to be a change.

No one is 'considering' this to be a change.  It is a change regardless of whether you slack-wits finally decided that you needed to fix a bug, or if you finally realized that you actually sell storage space and letting people use mail for storage had an impact on those sales.  Different today than it was yesterday = changed.

So far no patch notice, but it's early and they haven't finished licking their dognuts yet.

OMG, did KNN make a relevant and reasonable contribution to an ongoing discussion?! I have to turn off my filter and go check the original. What's next, Sev admitting somebody else had a good idea? It sure would be nice not to have to keep updating scripts on all of the half dozen computers I use through the course of a week  Roll Eyes

Turdbin, keep changing the DDO rules, because McDonalds sold over 200 billion hamburgers by changing the recipe for their Special Sauce every couple of months to keep interest up.

https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/477229-Lag-Reduction-and-Mailbox-Limit...!

Quote:
As you may know, we recently implemented a system in DDO that limits your mailbox inbox to 50 mails. This was done to start addressing an issue where exceptionally-large inboxes were causing lag due to character data bloat. When we implemented this system, we asked everyone to voluntarily reduce their inboxes, and the system itself began preventing people from sending mail or posting things in the Auction Houses if they had more than 50 mails.

We appreciate everyone's efforts to address this issue. Remember that we won't see a lag reduction until players have smaller mailbox inboxes, so it's been up to you to help improve things by reducing your inbox. We're now at the stage when we need to take the next step. We have a command that allows us to prune inboxes down to fifty mails, and we will soon be running that command starting with the characters that have the largest inboxes (we have a couple that are literally in the thousands...) Consider this your LAST CALL. Please get your inbox down to 50 mails if you are above this limit and are concerned about losing anything in your inbox.

As of Wednesday, July 20th here's the player count of folks with 50+ mails in their inbox:

Argonnessen: 273
Cannith: 245
Ghallanda: 311
Orien: 216
Khyber: 219
Sarlona: 300
Thelanis: 307
Wayfinder: 45

Total:    1916

Some of these may be folks who are no longer playing the game, or who haven't logged in in a very long time, but we know some of these numbers include active players, so we're putting out this final call to voluntarily reduce your inbox size if you have more than 50 mails prior to running a command that will automatically prune things. Thank you!

This makes no sense.  They have already implemented the restoration of the timer expiration.  I've left PMs from other players sit in my mailbox and they have vanished when they went a day after showing 1 day left.  So how could there be mailboxes full of things owned by players who "are no longer playing the game, or who haven't logged in in a very long time?"  One day after they fixed the bug which halted the timer at 1 day all the inboxes of inactive players should have self-pruned.  Active players could continue to mail crap back and forth to keep high inbox numbers, for whatever reasons including just not having anyplace else to put the stuff.  But not inactive players.  So why would they even say that inactive accounts could be a part of the problem any longer?

Those fuckwits at DDO are a pack of fucking cowards that are hiding behind the "lag" excuse for cleaning up their shitty coding rather then telling people the actual fucking truth. They want people to spend money on inventory space.

I don't even blame them for it, it's fucking business. Just grow a set of fucking balls and tell your customers the truth you spineless shit stains.

If I didn't already fucking despise them this chicken shit behavior would have done it.

Especially since across most MMO communities storage space is an acceptable thing to micro pay for. Its pretty much the only non cosmetic sold over on path of exile for example least when I played it last.
Had they been leveraging of properly the whole time many of the more controversial items sold may have never been.

Nope.  But I was under the impression that the whole point of the mailbox 'fix' (better called 'return to working order after unintentionally broken' I guess) was to reinstate the timer actually completing the countdown and deleting mail when it hit 0 days.  Attachment or not.
